This study examines the mechanical properties, the wear and the fatigue performance of some sintered reinforced powder metallurgy aluminum materials. In a contact rolling and sliding test, the aluminum materials showed significant improvement in the wear resistance and the fatigue endurance. There is limited wear damage to the contact surface, on which the appearance of the microstructure features, such as the grain, the pore size and distribution showed little change. No visible fatigue cracks were found on the contact surface and the surrounding areas, despite the prolonged testing. The wear rate of the powder metallurgy materials appeared to be correlated to the bulk hardness of the materials.
